Importance of Ergonomics in the Medical Workplace

A safe work environment is a productive work environment. Due to the nature of the job, health care workers are often required to carry out physically demanding tasks, sometimes for prolonged periods of time. Unfortunately, this can result in workers developing work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are over 200,000 recorded work related injuries in healthcare workplaces. Over a half, require time off for recovery, costing the healthcare industry billions of dollars in workplace injury compensation.

Prolonged Standing

Working continuously in a standing position can cause various injuries such as swelling in the legs, sore feet, varicose veins, lower back pain, stiffness in the neck and shoulders, and knee pain.
